If there’s one thing I know to be true, it’s that every professional has things they can’t get through their day without. As a photographer, my schedule is always changing–but what isn’t changing are the things I rely on to create incredible stories for my clients.
There’s a different camera for every occasion, and I love the collection I’ve developed. When I want to take some fun flash photos, I use my Canon G7X Mark III. It’s a really versatile and compact camera, and I love taking it for a night out with friends, or getting fun candid shots during a reception while everyone is dancing!
My tried and true cameras and the ones that will literally never leave my camera bag are my Canon EOS R6 Mark II and my Canon EOS R6. You will find me nine times out of ten using my Mark II during wedding days, at your engagement session, or just shooting content for gyms! The R6 is my backup in case anything were to happen. Yes, I have an extra camera just sitting in my back INCASE something happened to my main one. Us photogs always have to be prepared.
There are so many fun camera lenses to experiment with, but over time, I really zoned in on two in particular for regular use with my clients. The Canon RF 28-70mm F/2 L USM Lens is my FAVORITE of all time, and she never leaves my camera body! The range on this lens allows me to capture all my creative visions without having to swap lenses constantly, which is really convenient with how much I travel for clients. My backup lens is the Canon EF 35mm F/1.4L II USM, which is great for portraits but also for wedding days. Again, yes, I have an extra lens just sitting in my camera bag in case something were to happen to my other one 🙂
The more I get to know and speak with other photographers, one thing we all seem to have in common is back pain! We spend so much time on our feet, and our equipment can get heavy REALLY fast. When I found my Spider holster, I knew the game was forever changed. The harness holds my cameras around my waist like a belt, which eliminates all my struggles while shooting! My camera now sits on my hip instead of around my back.
Just like a girl needs cute accessories for a good outfit, I would be incomplete without my camera accessories. My external flash, the Profoto A10, is SO important for getting great photos after the sun goes down! I also have the Profoto A2 flash, but I really don’t use it (she’s my backup). A great photographer is always prepared, so I haven’t been able to get myself to sell it! I use the Connector Pro from Profoto to sync my flashes to my camera, which lets me use the flashes while detached from the camera itself. This has been so helpful when I’m out on location for weddings! I also have a Lume Cube light, which I really keep on hand for backup lighting more than anything.
Most importantly, I am ALWAYS stocked on extra batteries. I have seven for my cameras, and 2 for my flashes. I also have 2 completely full SD card cases and more SD cards than I can count, along with battery chargers, rain covers, and my trusty tripod. No matter the day or the season, I will always come prepared to make sure my clients get the experience of a lifetime!
